          • Pass all components of our competency exam, the Alberta Registered Massage Therapists Society Exam. (ARMTSE).

Jurisdictional Recognition:

If you come from another jurisdiction whose standards are recognized as equivalent or greater to Alberta's. (AIT) Eg. As a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists, in British Columbia, Newfoundland or Ontario you may join the ARMTS without writting an exam.

The ARMTSE is psychometrically compiled and assessed by Dr. Claudio Violato of the the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine using an exam structure similar to other health sciences. The ARMTSE has undergone academic peer review, published as “Certification Examinations for Massage Therapists: A Psychometric Analysis,” in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, February 2002, Volume 25, Number 2, pages 111-115. This publication is available in pdf in the “exam” area of this website.
Sittings of the ARMTSE are scheduled for June and October of each year. The exam content is reviewed and updated each year by a committee of practicing massage therapists. The ARMTSE is then psychometrically compiled and assessed by Dr. Claudio Violato of the the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine.
